Tarisland Map Preview: Misty Forest

2024.03.27

We've already walked you through the rustic Ancash Canyon and the magnificent SilverLit in our previous articles. Today, let's travel deep into Tarisland and explore the secrets and history buried in the Misty Forest.

A Mysterious Forest Shrouded in Mist

The Misty Forest does not welcome ordinary travelers and is shrouded in mist all year round. Travelers who mistakenly enter the forest will fall into a coma amid gentle singing. But they will find themselves outside the forest when they wake up again.

In the Misty Forest, the elves follow a unique set of cultures and customs. They like exquisite handmade silverware, and jade from the east will also be made into jewelry and ornaments. They love music and dance, and pay great attention to various rituals and festivals. For example, at the spring and autumn equinoxes, they hold unique ceremonies to thank nature for its gifts.

Tree of Luen

The life of the elves has been integrated with nature and is closely connected with this forest. They admire nature and balance, which are treated as the source of their life. Rumor says that the elves are not an original species of Tarisland. They came to Tarisland in ancient times following divine revelation and settled down since. For a very long time, the elves abided in the commandments of gods and never stepped out of this forest.

In the Misty Forest, there is an enormous tree that stands tall above the sky. It's called the "Tree of Luen" in Elvish, which means "the tree that holds the world." For thousands of years, the tree served as a dwelling place for the elves, and the blessings it brought made it their most sacred place. But 300 years ago, a "meteorite" of unknown origin crashed through the core of the Tree of Lune, destroying the power of it. The meteorite is still stuck in the roots of the tree to this day, and the entire trunk of the Tree of Lune faintly glows.

Every few decades, the elves hold their grandest celebration, Emare'ssenya, which means "the gift of rain, dew, and starlight". This is a celebration of life centered around the Tree of Lune, presided over by the Elf Queen herself.

Lurking Horror

Recently, the Misty Forest has become a deadly place following a series of incidents. Apart from the dense trees and the thick mist, the once-unintelligent Merfolks suddenly became smarter and harsher than ever. They would organize vicious attacks against the creatures in and travelers who wander into the forest by mistake, plunging the once-peaceful forest into chaos.

As the mist dissipated, many adventurers attempted to explore the forest again, but none survived. Unknown horror roams deep in the forest, eagerly waiting for the arrival of more travelers...
